There is no getting around that it has been a hard year. We always knew that owning our own business would be a labor of love...but just like having children, you don't really truly figure it out until you are smack dab in the middle of it. So that's where we are. Smack. Dab. In the middle of it. Figuring it out. In case you haven't heard, it's a might bit tricky to have a small business in the current economic climate...but we're keeping the dream alive. I realized the other day, that I have spent the last couple of months really struggling against the changes and being paralyzed by the what ifs and we can'ts. It's odd that for all of the changes I have made in my life, and all of the travels that I have experienced, I am still reticent to change until I am nudged. Those nudges make me crabby and contracted and fearful. It is really hard to focus on the things that are positive in your life and can create positive change when you are feeling that way. There are so many small and beautiful things that I experience each day but I am so wrapped up in my own worries that I file those things away to enjoy later...when there is quiet, when we retire, when we aren't worried....
The thing is those little joys are a lifeline. Right? They can be the thread that ties you back to your open heart, to your creative spirit, to your exhale. It seems like only good can come from looking for a new beauty in your life each day. SO. In the spirit of a suggestion my papa made to me over and over again when I felt stymied as a child...'If you want to change something, meditate on it for 30 days' he would say. There's something to that I think. 30 days from now brings us right up to the New Year. It's the perfect time to renew the the spirit of gratitude, observing what enriches our lives no matter how silly or small, how wooly or wonderful. With love.
Day 1: CHILLY
Chilly days drive the memories of the record setting Texas heat far, far away. Drawn to pockets of warmth we search out cuddling, brownie baking, toe socks, candles, soup making, hot cocoa, coffee, and wine to warm the bones. <3
