Last Saturday we celebrated Li's birthday with friends and family. We went to a restaurant of his choosing and afterwards we all went to the movies together. There was a lot of ice cream and a lot of laughing. There was some impromptu running of laps before entering the movie theater. Down and back, down and back. Did I mention there was a lot of ice cream?? We are digging 11 around these parts. Who knew that it was going to be this much fun?

Li's first big project of the year was to pick an American symbol and create a 3-D rendition of it. He chose Uncle Sam which led us to some serious head-scratching as to how to create said rendition. He worked so hard on the project and I was so proud to watch it unfold.  See more pictures here.  I didn't get a 100% complete photo (after it was completely painted and the hat was glued into position. When we get it back from his teachers, I'll post a shot here.

What's Cooking?

After returning from the gym/pool, Fi decided that we should have black bean nachos for dinner...and that she should be the one to cook dinner.  I snuck around the corner to snap a shot of her making dinner.  Imagine my surprise when she turned around.  

  

She really did rock the guacamole though.  Have I mentioned lately how much I love the she has started to cook??  It's a dream come true!

First Day of School (um..yeah...back in August)

So, I started up this typepad account because it seems like it has more bells and whistles than the Blogger one....or maybe it just seems more user-friendly, I dunno.  Anyhoo, I had good intentions but life got in the way (story of this year for us).  I am way behind on the pictures that I wanted to post here, so I think I will just backtrack to the beginning of August.  SO!  The first day of school was exciting as wells as nerve-wracking.  Fi was so incredibly excited at the prospect of finally getting some 'real' homework.  Li was pensive and a little unsure of what to think of this whole 5th grade thing.  The picture tells the tale.
